Vows: Erica + Steve
A shared passion for seeing the world is what first drew Erica and Steve to one another. Avid skiers, runners, hikers and scuba divers, the pair’s sense of adventure was always undeniable. Eventually, so was their love for one another. Having met through mutual friends, the duo quickly established a courtship, together journeying to the reaches of Greece, Italy, Germany, Belize and British Columbia. Yet on Christmas of 2018, Steve, a Denver-based attorney, had a journey of a different kind planned for Erica, who works for her family’s manufacturing company. As they gathered with family to open gifts, he presented her with one last gesture – a pair of ski goggles. Inside the package was another much smaller box containing an engagement ring. A shocked Erica gladly accepted the proposal as Steve fell to one knee and asked her to spend forever with him.
The following year, the couple said their “I dos” in Denver against the jaw dropping backdrop of the highly ornamented Assumption of the Theotokos Greek Orthodox Cathedral. “We knew we wanted our wedding at the Cathedral,” Erica remarks. “It is so bold and stunning. When you walk in, you cannot help but be moved.” The bride donned an exquisite lace gown by designer Hayley Paige and show stopping stilettos from Christian Louboutin. Around her wrist was a simple gold bangle – the first piece of jewelry given to Erica’s mother from her father some 40 years earlier, which served as the bride’s “something borrowed.” Also with Erica for her walk down the aisle was an incredibly sentimental “something old.” “My great-grandmother wrote a letter on my first birthday in 1985 for me to read on my wedding day,” she explains. “She enclosed the letter in a box with a handkerchief that she wanted me to carry as well as a Catholic Patron Saint medal to provide protection. I was so excited to finally get to read the letter and open this mysterious box from my late great-grandmother.”
Afterwards, Erica, Steve and their 155 guests took to The Halcyon in Cherry Creek North where they celebrated in the grandest of fashions. The perfect balance of comfort and modernity, Erica and Steve knew the contemporary hotel was the perfect locale for their reception the moment they entered. From their first look on the art-laden rooftop to their first dance in the sleek ballroom, The Halcyon offered the pair a colorful, au currant setting to host their big day. After dining on delectable fare and dancing the night away, Erica and Steve escaped to Palm Springs for a “mini moon” before returning to Denver to spend their first holiday season as man and wife.
