Joy Avedesian’s Take
Start with a number. Women hold just 29 percent of C-suite roles, according to McKinsey’s 2025 Women in the Workplace report. For the women who get there, the doubt that lingers rarely comes from a shortage of achievement. It comes from the climb itself: uneven representation, compensation that does not match the title, the quiet arithmetic of being the only one in the room.
Joy Avedesian has spent two decades inside that arithmetic. As Managing Partner of The Stellarix Group, a MassMutual firm, she works at the intersection of wealth management, leadership development, business scaling, and recruiting. Her clients are high earners and the financial advisors who serve them, and her premise is direct: a woman’s financial life and her professional standing are not separate accounts. They move together.
What the old playbook misses
The traditional financial advisory model was not built for the way ambitious women actually live. Career pivots. Wealth built inside dual-income partnerships. The daily juggle of executive, parent, caretaker, and mentor, often at the same time. Avedesian’s argument is that a financial advisor who files those responsibilities under footnotes is managing a portfolio, not a person.
Her practice is selective by design. She works with professionals who want accountability and measurable results, and she sets the terms early: clear expectations, real structure, and a plan that turns ambition into something you can act on this quarter, not someday.
Discipline, learned on the court
Before the boardroom there was the arena. A former NCAA Division I athlete and Big West champion, Avedesian brings a competitor’s mindset to the work, the kind that treats preparation as non-negotiable and keeps score honestly. It shows up in how she builds teams, develops financial advisors, and pushes growth-minded clients to think past the next quarter.
It shows up off the clock, too. She mentors athletes through the transition most never plan for, the one that arrives after sport, and works to widen access to mental health resources for the people making it. For her clients, that translates into guidance designed around more than a balance sheet. Building wealth is one thing. Building the confidence, culture, and clarity to carry it forward is another.
